# Avelin — Core Lexicon 1.0 Read with GRAMMAR.md. This is a seed lexicon, not a dictionary large enough for every subject. Regular derivatives are not separate roots. Vowel quality, syllabification, and penultimate stress follow the grammar without exceptions. N = noun; A = adjective; V.i = intransitive; V.t = transitive; V.c = complement-taking. Accusative objects are marked -n. Optional arguments may remain unspecified under §5.2. ## People, body, and relationship | Root | Class | Meaning / frame | |---|---|---| | nari | N | person, human being | | ama | N | parent; no gender specified | | imi | N | child; offspring or young person | | elavi | N | friend | | rima | N | heart, as organ; figuratively emotional center | | manu | N | hand | | tala | N | foot; distinct from clause-opening tala “although” | | sena | N | year | | vora | N | face | | sina | N | eye | | hela | N | ear | | nomi | N | name | | vema | N | community | | yala | N | bond, relationship | ## Landscape, matter, and living things | Root | Class | Meaning / frame | |---|---|---| | mira | N | flower | | nava | N | water | | luma | N | light | | sola | N | sun | | luna | N | moon | | zira | N | star | | wera | N | wind | | arana | N | sky | | dara | N | tree | | fali | N | leaf | | ava | N | bird | | numa | N | fish | | tera | N | earth, soil | | kala | N | stone | | mara | N | sea | | nera | N | river | | hara | N | mountain | | vala | N | valley | | fira | N | fire | | sula | N | rain | ## Home, artifacts, space, and time | Root | Class | Meaning / frame | |---|---|---| | sela | N | dwelling, home-building | | kava | N | cup; cupful, size contextually standardized | | bela | N | door | | rali | N | path | | panu | N | bread | | mela | V.t | love; lover NOM, beloved ACC (not a food noun) | | lirema | N | book, lexical root; not the regular event noun lirama | | nali | N | language | | nala | N | song, sung composition | | dina | N | day | | nora | N | night | | hora | N | hour | | vera | N | moment | | ina | N.rel | interior | | sura | N.rel | upper side/top | | nela | N.rel | lower side/bottom | | fera | N.rel | front | | dora | N.rel | back/rear | | veno | N.rel | interval, between-space | | tema | N.rel | topic | | ena | N | thing, entity; generic head | | tuma | N | task, piece of work | | sari | N | story | ## Qualities | Root | Class | Meaning | |---|---|---| | veli | A | beautiful | | sava | A | calm, peaceful; also conventional greeting | | mali | A | large | | nini | A | small | | novi | A | new | | dari | A | old, long-existing; not inherently obsolete | | seri | A | good, beneficial | | zali | A | bad, harmful | | feli | A | warm | | neli | A | cold | | yari | A | near | | dori | A | far | | yali | A | happy | | mori | A | sad | | hari | A | open | | kori | A | closed | | suli | A | true, factually correct | | vari | A | possible; adjective, distinct from modal po | ## Actions and states | Root | Class | Meaning / frame | |---|---|---| | sira | V.t | see: perceiver NOM, perceived ACC | | hena | V.t | hear/listen to: listener NOM, sound/source ACC; attention is contextual | | rema | V.t | remember: rememberer NOM, remembered entity ACC; use an event noun for an event | | zena | V.t/c | know: knower NOM, entity ACC or ne-clause | | vela | V.t/c | want: wanter NOM, entity ACC or ne-clause | | dira | V.t/c | say/state: speaker NOM, content ACC or ne-clause, addressee DAT optional | | meka | V.c | ask: questioner NOM, ne-interrogative-clause, addressee DAT optional | | neri | V.i | speak: speaker NOM, addressee DAT, language INSTR, topic relational temava | | lira | V.t | read: reader NOM, text ACC | | lina | V.i | sing: singer NOM; intransitive, no direct song object | | vana | V.i | go: traveler NOM, destination DAT, source ABL optional | | vena | V.i | come: arriver NOM, destination DAT, source ABL optional; movement toward contextual deictic center | | esa | V.cop | be: subject NOM, adjective/unmarked nominal/genitive/locative predicate | | ila | V.i | exist: existing entity NOM, location LOC optional | | dona | V.t | give: giver NOM, theme ACC, recipient DAT | | sera | V.t | thank: thanker NOM, thanked person ACC | | tina | V.i | apologize: apologizer NOM, addressee DAT optional | | fera | V.t | make/produce: maker NOM, product ACC; homophonous with noun “front” | | pala | V.t | eat: eater NOM, food ACC | | nuva | V.t | drink: drinker NOM, drink ACC | | soma | V.i | sleep: sleeper NOM | | yera | V.i | live/be alive: living entity NOM, residence LOC optional | | ravi | V.i | walk: walker NOM, destination DAT/source ABL optional | | fena | V.t | find: finder NOM, found entity ACC; distinct from purpose-clause opener | | nora | V.t | carry: carrier NOM, theme ACC, destination DAT optional; distinct from night noun | | mila | V.t | touch: toucher NOM, touched entity ACC | Homophones are intentional only where both entries are listed. Their syntactic positions usually disambiguate them; paraphrase if they do not. Avelin does not freely convert every noun to a verb. ## Time adverbs `nua` now; `era` yesterday; `ora` tomorrow. Adverb formation from adjectives uses -si. All closed-class items, numerals, pronouns, and affixes are defined normatively in the grammar; this lexicon supplements rather than replaces those tables. ## Frequently useful derived words | Word | Derivation | Meaning | |---|---|---| | nerira | neri-ra | speaker | | nerima | neri-ma | speaking, speech activity | | lirara | lira-ra | reader | | lirama | lira-ma | reading activity | | linama | lina-ma | singing | | lumave | luma-ve | luminous, characterized by light | | velilo | veli-lo | beauty | | savalo | sava-lo | calmness | | savasi | sava-si | calmly | | velidu | veli-du | become beautiful | | yalidu | yali-du | become happy | | haridu | hari-du | open, become open (intransitive) | | koridu | kori-du | close, become closed (intransitive) | | mirani | mira-ni | little/dear flower | | selaro | sela-ro | large dwelling | `haridumu` causes something to become open: the causee is agentive under the ordinary causative rule, even when inanimate. Do not silently substitute accusative for convenience. ## Naming and extension A new ordinary root should end in a vowel, obey (C)V(C), and receive a class and argument frame. Proper names may use permitted final codas. Derive predictable words before inventing new roots, but avoid excessively long chains. Check homophones before adopting a root; deliberate homophony must be documented. Technical and cultural meanings should be explicitly introduced, not assumed to be native traditions.
